Paul Gibson

"Rik"

Trained at Ryerson Theatre School, Paul has worked in theatres across North America as an actor, singer, musician, composer, puppeteer, and fight choreographer.  Selected roles include ‘Jacob’ in SALTWATER MOON, ‘Gerald Croft’ in AN INSPECTOR CALLS, ‘Owen’ in THE MELVILLE BOYS, ‘Brent’ in ROCK AND ROLL (with James Downing), ‘Jackson’ in PUMPBOYS & DINETTES (with Mark Kersey), ‘Charlie Brown’ in YOU’RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN (with Karen Turner), and ‘Frank Butler’ in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN.  Paul has also performed in, written, and composed for film, television, radio, and corporate events.  He was fight choreographer for Persephone Theatre’s HAMLET and Vivid Theatre’s HENRY V ON ICE and recently served as Welsh dialect coach for Factory Theatre’s FIGHTING WORDS, directed by Rosemary Dunsmore.  For the past ten years Paul has played guitar, sung, and composed for the children’s musical duet THE STYLAMANDERS, with Mark Kersey.  THAT BOY is Paul’s second play script, his first being DJANGO REINHARDT’S MASS.  He is currently writing a play about a wedding in Vancouver.

Hailing from Saskatoon, a graduate of the National Theatre School in Montreal, Karen has spent most of the past eight years on the West Coast where she founded two theatre companies: Theatre SKAM (Vancouver Island) and On the Brink (Vancouver).  She has also worked with Green Thumb, Axis, Carousel, The Belfry, and with Chemainus Theatre where, as Artistic Associate, she acted, directed and wrote.  Then Karen fell in love, moved to Toronto, and adopted a dog (in that order).  Having worked with Paul Gibson on her first professional gig, years ago on the Prairies, Karen is delighted at the symmetry achieved by working with him on this exciting project, her first collaboration in Toronto.

DRESSUP SHOW as ‘Mark the Repairman’, contributing songs and scripts to the show.  He has also written music for two feature length films, a documentary film, and has recorded five albums of kids music with his group THE STYLAMANDERS (two of them with Paul Gibson) - www.thestylamanders.com.  Mark was the 1984 Canadian Yo Yo Champion and has delighted people around the world with his astonishing repertoire of tricks.

   Soundscape/Recorded Band
Arlene is the resident diva with the award-winning 18-piece GEORGE LAKE BIG BAND - www.georgelakebigband.com.  She also sings lead vocals and lush harmonies with Canada’s foremost bluegrass band, WHISKEY JACK (now in their second year of monthly appearances at Toronto’s Ben Wicks Pub) and performs as a special guest at MELODY RANCH on Saturday afternoons at Club 279, atop the Hard Rock Café.  Arlene began her musical career in the early ’eighties in local rock, folk, and show bands.  As a member of THE KIDD SISTERS she worked with Mark Kersey and continues to do so today (appearing on a number of STYLAMANDER recordings).  A skilled vocal arranger who has studied jazz harmony at the Song Studio and classical piano with Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music, she owes her natural talent to her father, former Toronto Argo and CFL Hall of Famer Bill Zock, who had her singing harmony by ear almost as soon as she could walk.
